Projects in Development
Fresh off of two fellowships with Sundance’s prestigious Collab program, I’m currently developing original IP for two distinct narrative projects, each rooted in a different corner of the American working-class experience.
Limited Series, political thriller, legal drama— Set in 1971 Northern California, THE TRIAL OF ANGELA DAVIS film tells the true story of Angela Davis, a 26-year old professor, prison abolitionist and self-proclaimed Black revolutionary accused of murder, kidnapping and conspiracy, and Margaret Burnham, the bold-fresh-out-of-law school attorney who risks everything to take on the highly controversial, precedent-setting case. As the trial unfolds, Angela's fight becomes a flashpoint in the battle against a the holy trifecta of government power in 1971 targeting powerful civil rights leaders, sparking a groundswell of outrage and a growing wave of solidarity that transcends borders. The film powerfully captures a real story of a case that became a litmus test for the political tensions of a polarized nation, that ignited a global movement and one that forged a new global language of liberation.
Feature-length road-trip love story — It’s 1934, and San Francisco photographer Dorothea Lange is at a crossroads. Sacrificing herself for years to support her artist husband and children as a portrait photographer, making a name for herself as an artist, has remained elusive. When U.C. Berkeley economics professor Paul Taylor invites her to photograph the rise of the migrant labor movement, she sets off on a road trip through the California highways and byways where mutual passions become undeniable and her artistry and purpose find their focus for the first time. But to ignite a revolution through her lens, she must risk everything she holds dear. Part road-trip, part love story, and based on 18 pivotal months in the true story of photographer Dorothea Lange, we experience how a series of courageous acts and the power of the image transform the nation’s compassion for the rural poor and working class.
